3 quotes artist should live by
There have been many, many, many brilliant, amazing, fantastic artist in the world. And sometimes they say something that the world needs to hear.
Here I have compiled my favorite ones. These are awe-inspiring, motivating. I believe that these three quotes should always be in the back of your mind, whether you are creating or just going about your day.
Now my favorite is if you could not tell by the header of my main page is by Henri Matisse who said
“Creativity takes courage.”
There is a risk of judgement when you express yourself in a creative or different way.
You may also be making something that could challenge perceptions, beliefs or understandings.
But it takes courage to allow yourself to express your thoughts and emotions in a creative way.
And this is not only in relation to art. Take it to heart during every moment of your day. Take courage, have faith in yourself and don't be afraid to try new things.
Next is by Pablo Picasso, who was the first professional artist that inspired me to create. He said
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”
This quote is important to me because when I was a child I was always creating. I would sketch and draw and paint and write and sing and dance. I had no fear or doubt in myself. But as I grew up I began to doubt myself. I stopped creating and allowed my doubts and fears to control me. It took me a while to get back into it and to allow my artist side to be in control. And I find that we need to encourage children to continue to be creative.
Look into yourself and don't be afraid to let the inner child out every once in a while. See a swing and have an urge to play, go ahead. Hear a song you adore, dance no matter whose watching.
You may no longer be a child but that does not mean that you cannot have fun.
And this list would not be complete without the famous quote from Bob Ross
“We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents”
Doing anything can lead to anxiety over mistakes and accidents and messing up. Art is no exception. And this quote by Bob Ross helps smooth over that stress. We may still make mistakes, and things may not turn out the way we envisioned them, but that's OK.
Don't let the fear of mistakes keep you from living your life. Embrace your mistakes, learn from them, and keep on trying.
These three quotes are ones that I think you should consider when going on your creative journey and making art of any kind.
